Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) is Malaysia's number one Converged Communications Services Provider. It offers a comprehensive suite of communication services and solutions in broadband, data, and fixed-line, serving as a critical backbone for the nation's digital infrastructure.
1. The Challenge: Modernizing a Nation's Legacy Core
As a leading fixed-line operator, Telekom Malaysia faces the constant challenge of balancing network reliability with the need for
innovation. Its legacy core network equipment, while robust, lacked the flexibility, scalability, and automation required to efficiently launch new services and manage modern network demands. TM required a strategic transformation to an agile, future-proof architecture that could continue to meet the exceptionally high standards for quality and performance expected of a national telecommunications provider.
vC4 Softswitch: The virtualized core of the new network, handling call control and switching.
vAIN and vEMS GR: A virtualized Application Intelligent Network and Element Management System with Geographic Redundancy for enhanced resilience and service control.
vNASS and vEMS GR: A virtualized Network Access Subscriber System and EMS with Geographic Redundancy for secure and reliable access management.
Telekom Malaysia UCaaS Platform: A foundational platform for delivering future Unified Communications as a Service.
A key component of the solution was the integration of Management and Orchestration (MANO) capabilities. This provided TM with significantly improved network flexibility and automation, enabling efficient resource provisioning, service delivery, and network management.
Achieved Strategic Modernization: Successfully replaced legacy hardware with a scalable, software-based cloud architecture, reducing reliance on physical infrastructure.
Enhanced Network Agility: The MANO layer provides unparalleled flexibility and automation, drastically reducing the time required to provision services and manage network resources.
Met Rigorous Quality Standards: The new cloud core, designed with carrier-grade redundancy, continues to fulfill the stringent quality, reliability, and performance requirements essential for a national fixed-line operator.
Built a Foundation for Innovation: The implemented UCaaS platform and cloud-native environment provide a agile foundation for TM to rapidly develop and deploy new revenue-generating services to its market.
