The system architecture of uSDM is based on the standard ETSI NFV architecture. The main functional components can be deployed as VNFs on the virtual infrastructure and managed by the cloud platform. The system architecture of uSDM is shown in the figure below:
Genew UnionCore uSDM is developed based on the idea of atom-level convergence, that means, not only the system is disaggregated into different modules, each module is a totally standalone Virtualized Network Function Component (VNFC) that could be deployed in a VM or Container, but also for both 2/3G, 4G and 5G signaling, are dealt within the unified Data Management (DM) module.
|Shared DB||database||The Shared DB, as a back-end database, is provided by 3rd party, it could use Oracle, or other open source databases like Maria DB, Couchbase etc. And it could be deployed remotely and shared with other applications.|
|RDB||Memory database||The RDB stores the user subscriber data and policy data, IMS data etc., as a front-end database, it communicates with the back-end database using the APIs provided by the back-end database. It is based on Redis DB, Redis DB is an opensource memory database with extraordinary performance and fertile functions.|
|OMU||O&M||The OMU is the Operation and Management Unit, provides routine FCAPS maintenance operation.|
|SBI||Interface||The SBI deals with the service-based interfaces, especially the HTTP2 layer with load balancing function.|
|MAP||Interface||The MAP deals with the C/D/Gr/Ge interface.|
|Diameter||Interface||The Diameter deals with the S6a/S6d/Cx/Dx/Sh/Si interfaces.|
|DMU||Interface & Service||The DMU is the Data Management Unit, deals with the MAP, Diameter and UDM messages with load balancing function.|
|SPU-DM||Service||The SPU is the Service Processing Unit of subscriber data, policy data and IMS data. It deals with user data procedures, slice procedures, reachability procedures, voice and SMS procedures etc.|
|SPU-AU||Service||The SPU-AU is the service processing unit of AUSF, it provides UE authentication functions like 5G AKA/EAP, 4G AKA and IMS authentication etc.|
|IPU||Service||The IPU is the IP processing unit transmits the signaling and messages with load balance function.|
|EMS||O&M||The EMS consists of NEs’ O&M Agents and a Web Server to provide Browser & Server O&M architecture, and it also includes part of MANO’s functions like NFVO and VNFM. Its name is NuMax Cloud.|
