Genew PDS can perform multiple network functions or in a combination of multiple elements, depending upon the access technology, like:

  • Packet Data Network Gateway (PDN-GW) – it connects S-GW to external data network

  • Serving Gateway (S-GW) – it connects E- UTRAN and PDN-GW

  • Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN) – it connects PS backbone network to external data network for GPRS/UMTS PS network

  • Mobility Management Entity (MME) – it manages access control and also validates subscriber’s location through mobility management

  • Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) – it manages access control for GPRS/UMTS network and handles all packet switched data within network

  • Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) – it determines policy rules in multimedia network
