GENEW’s ROADSHOW/SEMINAR FOR BITA, BORACAY
September 28-29, 2023
Genew Technologies, Inc. or GENEW, the Philippine subsidiary of Genew Technologies Co., Ltd., in collaboration with MERCC and TOMO Philippines, sponsored and hosted a two-day roadshow/seminar for the Boracay IT Association or BITA. BITA is an association of IT Experts in all hotels in Boracay. BITA is the main group of IT Experts connected to other IT Associations in the Philippines. It is a Conglomerate that includes BITA, HITAP (Hotelier Information Technology Association of the Philippines), CITA (Cebu IT Association), and many more. BITA not only consists of IT experts in hotels but also has IT experts from other industries and enterprises in Boracay as members. MERCC is Genew’s exclusive channel partner in Boracay and TOMO Philippines is a third-party solution partner.
The event was held in Hennan Regency Resort and Spa, in Boracay Island, on September 28 and 29, 2023. The event was attended by BITA officers and members, representatives from MERCC, PANTELCO and ETPI.
The roadshow/seminar was a two-part event: Presentation about Genew Products and Solutions on Session 1, September 28; and Presentation about TOMO Products and Solutions on Session 2, September 29. Each Session was also divided into two parts. For Genew’s Session, the first part offered insights about Genew, the company, its products and solutions, current and future technologies and some unique solutions. The main product, the VoIP Product Platform, was also primarily emphasized during the first part of the session - Session 1. GenewPH Hotel and Enterprise VoIP Platform consists of the various standard models and customized models of NC5200SE, IAD, IP Phone, Analog Phone, Hotel Phone, LAN Switch, DSS, SBC, Firewall/Load Balancer, Property Management System Middleware and other ancillary items. The second part of Session 1 tackled on GPON, its full complement of solutions and complete product platform, as well as factors and considerations in deploying and implementing the technology. GenewPH integrated solutions were also introduced in the second part of Session 1. The main focus of the event was to address the current and future requirements of BITA regarding VoIP infrastructure and evolution to GPON technology for N-play services and applications as well as seamless migration and upgrade to future technologies.

Ms. Christine Borromeo, GenewPH Admin Manager, together with her team: Mr. Jayson Trillana, GenewPH Head of Logistics; and Mr. Ricky Sanchez, spearheaded the event coordination with all parties involved, resource acquisition and preparation as well as the overall program structure. Her team was also in-charge of guest registration, event setup and design and the egress process.

Mr. Rocky Zhang, Genew International Sales Manager, provided the needed inspirational and motivational boost to the Sales and Presales Teams during the event. The Sales Team, comprised of Ms. Mai Pinguel, GenewPH Sales Manager (for PLDT, BITA, etc.) and Ms. Abie Marasigan, GenewPH Sales Manager (for Globe, ETPI, etc.), effectively functioned as the event hosts and raised awareness to BITA members about the benefits of Genew products and solutions during one-on-one as well as group discussions, while the Presales Team, led by Ricky Bautista, GenewPH Technical Manager and the event Technical Lead, set up the live demo system and also provided the assistance in addressing technical inquiries and concerns.

The event was attended by all BITA officers and members. Prior to Genew Roadshow/Seminar, events for BITA were actually conducted either quarterly, semi-annually or annually by other vendors and manufacturers in the hope to capture the hotel industry and resort telecommunication market, either a majority of it or even just a fraction of it. So it was imperative that Genew should provide a much better than usual experience for the association.

Mr. Joseph Solis, GenewPH Presales Manager, presented and provided an overview of the Genew company and products, integrated solutions, current and future technologies as well as full packaged services that covers turnkey and managed services. He also gave inspirational insights on the future of telco and IT technologies as will be influenced by Artificial Intelligence. The intention was to prepare the audience’s imagination and interest on the revolutionary and innovative systems and solutions offered by GenewPH local partner, TOMO Philippines, scheduled to be explained and detailed on Session 2 of the event, the following day. TOMO’s solutions have AI either as a basic component or majority component.

Mr. Ricky Bautista set up a working and operational VoIP Platform designed specifically for the hotel and enterprise requirements. It comprised of one NC5200SE, two IP Phones (GNT1200), two analog phones (T201S), DSS Operator Console (GNT4300PE IP Phone and EXP43 Expansion Module), LAN Switch, IAD (FXS), GPON Pizza Box and several ONTs (GM2104G-W, GM2104G-WE, GM2104G-WR and HG326AC). The live demo system was set up in such a way that the NC5200SE call features were configured and activated thru the GPON infra.

Prior to the event proper, there are already several inquiries regarding the VoIP Platform specific to the hotel industry. GenewPH Sales and Presales teams were already discussing solution options and conducting onsite testing on the platform in a few hotels in Boracay. The event proved to be very successful as it raised numerous opportunities and additional requests for quotation regarding the said platform. One critical component was again raised during the inquiries - the PMS middleware. Genew must now establish a solid plan and process to establish a more complete and strong solution for the specific VoIP Platform, with PMS Middleware as the deciding factor for its success in the hotel industry.

The Live Demo VoIP System, set up by Mr. Ricky Bautista, strategically provided the main and crucial ingredient for the event to stir the interest of the BITA officers and members. Several migration and upgrade to our solution were being considered by some hotels, as well as outright opportunities which were the result of that decision to put up a live working demo system.

It is universally known that the driving force of GPON technology is ITU-T standards governing body, and its counterpart is IEEE for EPON. GPON, which is a combined Ethernet and TDM technology, is backed by the telco industry, while EPON, being solely focused on Ethernet, naturally was backed by the IT industry. Therefore, explaining the benefits and advantages of GPON over EPON to an audience, all IT experts with background and expertise mostly exclusive on Ethernet technology, is a daunting task. There are hotels in Boracay already planning to implement GPON as service delivery infrastructure, so it was necessary and mandatory to lead and guide their IT experts to learn about GPON, which is the de facto standard for FTTx deployments, its evolution, pros and cons, and how it is deployed and implemented. GenewPH experience and skills in marketing, design, planning, engineering, deployment and implementation of GPON in the Philippines proved to be useful in effectively explaining the benefits and advantages of GPON over EPON. After the event, MERCC, GenewPH channel partner in Boracay, discussed the opportunity and plan to propose GPON, consisting of Pizza Box OLTs and GM2104G-WE ONTs, for a major client.

It is very important to note that Genew will never be recognized in the hotel industry and by BITA association for that matter, if not for the tireless effort of MERCC, our exclusive channel partner in Boracay Island. Being our “man-on-the-ground” in Boracay, MERCC provides all the time-sensitive coordination and preparations on practically all tasks and endeavors of Genew for the hotel industry in Boracay Island. Task and endeavors such as meetings on short notice with potential clients, onsite testing and troubleshooting, marketing and selling to all members of BITA are being accomplished by MERCC for Genew. The cost of doing business in Boracay is very high, but is made cost-effective by having an onsite channel partner in MERCC. While BITA is the end user, MERCC is practically Genew’s client - issuing the P.O. to us, negotiating effectively with BITA to ensure that Genew maintains significant revenue margins. Genew was already awarded a project by one of the hotels in Boracay, Mandarin Nest, on September 2023, thru the extensive efforts of MERCC.
For a lean company like GenewPH with limited market coverage in the Philippines now comprised of 7,641 islands (according to NAMRIA), establishing ideal channel partners is the only and most effective business strategy. MERCC is not just an ideal partner. MERCC is an almost perfect partner.

Establishing an almost perfect partner in MERCC enabled GenewPH to penetrate the hotel industry. While establishing an almost perfect partnership with TOMO Philippines enabled GenewPH to expand our telco market base with ETPI and Globe. TOMO Philippines also promises to extend that coverage to the logistics companies, LGUs and other opportunities thru project-based and account-based exclusivity or whichever benefits both GenewPH and TOMO. Such flexibility enables us to penetrate other revenue- generating avenues and frontiers never before conceived and explored. The roadshow/seminar concluded with further market and sales opportunities for Genew’s Hotel and Enterprise VoIP platform and GPON Platform, as well as potential partnerships with similar hotel IT associations and enterprise IT associations all over the Philippines. While it also necessitates forging alliances and partnerships with other channel partners similar to MERCC, it enables us to write our own playbook in strategically conducting business in this country.
